Picture a kid in rural Uganda with no school to go to. That’s been the norm for way too long in places like Northern Uganda, where classrooms are rare. Without education, kids are stuck, and so are their families. But we’re changing that at Amigos Internacionales. We’re building schools to give these kids a real shot at learning, growing, and dreaming big. It’s all about hope and a better tomorrow. In this post, we’ll walk you through our school projects, how they’re making a difference, and how you can jump in to help.

The Education Crisis in Rural Uganda
Life’s tough for kids in rural Uganda when it comes to school. Many don’t have one nearby, so they miss out on basics like reading and writing. It’s not just a bummer, it’s a trap, keeping poverty locked in tight for families and whole villages. Why’s it so bad? There aren’t enough buildings, teachers, or supplies in these far-off spots. Kids might walk miles to a school that doesn’t even exist. We saw this firsthand in Ogul Village when Covid hit in 2020, closing the local school and leaving 150 kids from preschool to third grade with nowhere to go. We believe every child deserves a quality education, no matter where they live.
Our School-Building Mission
So how are we making this happen? We’re building schools with local partners to make sure they last and fit the community. Our focus is Northern Uganda’s rural areas, places like Ogul Village where kids need us most. In November 2020, we bought the Cirvant Little Acorns School in Ogul after it shut down due to COVID-19 and poor conditions, renaming it Open Hands Academy. We’ve also got Harvest of Hope and Far Vision School in the works. Each one’s unique, but they all bring sustainable learning spaces. Open Hands serves preschool to third graders. Real Stories of Change
Let’s talk about what’s happening on the ground. At Open Hands Academy, we took a rundown school and turned it around with over $35,000 in upgrades: a security fence, new doors, windows, concrete floors, a fresh roof, and a full facelift. Soon, we’ll add a playground and sports field. We also drilled a $10,000 deep water well onsite for clean drinking water. Now, 150 kids from preschool to third grade have a place to learn. Harvest of Hope is building a primary school with classrooms, a library, and a playground. These schools are breaking poverty by giving kids skills and hope.
How You Can Help Us Grow
We’re not done yet, and we need you to keep this going. Your donations can help us build more schools and reach more kids across rural Uganda. Every new classroom or well makes a dent in the hardship these communities face. At Open Hands, we bought 9 extra acres to add economic activities, so kids and parents can give back and support their school. It’s about opening doors for the future, one child at a time.
Conclusion
We’re changing rural Uganda with schools that teach, inspire, and lift kids who’ve been left behind. From Ogul Village’s Open Hands to Harvest of Hope and Far Vision across Northern Uganda, we’re giving kids a chance they never had before. It’s a big win, but there’s more to do, and that’s where you come in. Your support can help us keep building and breaking down barriers.
