It was a day like no other in the small, bustling center of Chibe. We, a group of local pastors, had organized a simple crusade, devoid of the usual fanfare of advertisements or posters. Our plan was modest: just a few choirs from neighboring churches and a basic sound system. I never anticipated what was about to unfold.
As the choirs began their soulful presentations around 4:20 PM, the sweet melodies and harmonies resonated through the air, capturing the attention of passersby. Intrigued by the captivating music, people gradually started to trickle into the venue, their curiosity piqued. By 4:50 PM, to everyone's surprise, the center was unexpectedly filled with a diverse crowd, united by their shared appreciation for the power of music and the call of worship.
This heartwarming scene served as a vivid reminder that the most profound and impactful invitations often unfold not through grand announcements, but through the simple, genuine, and heartfelt connection forged through the beauty of music and spiritual devotion.
Among the gathering, one man stood out: Nkeleja. He arrived with a bottle of Dompo, an expensive alcohol, seemingly more interested in the drink than the message. Yet, as he sat there, casually enjoying the music and even generously tipping the singers, I felt a nudge in my spirit. Turning to a fellow pastor, I remarked, "Jesus has located this man today."
We felt compelled to pray for Nkeleja, and as we did, a remarkable transformation began. In an act symbolic of his newfound change, he discarded his bottle of Dompo. It was a profound moment of surrender, a visible sign that he was ready to embrace a new path. Nkeleja confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, a declaration that moved everyone present.
The impact of that moment didn't end there. Nkeleja, in his newfound faith, invited my wife Happy and me to his home. Riding there on my motorcycle, I pondered the mysterious ways in which faith touches hearts. At his home, Nkeleja expressed his desire for me to be his pastor. Happy and I were overwhelmed with joy, literally falling to the ground in gratitude and amazement at this unexpected turn of events.
The following Sunday brought more joyous news. Nkeleja, who had only a week before received Christ during our mini-crusade, brought two people to church. That day, three individuals found faith during our service, a testament to the ripple effect of one man's transformation.
After the service, the men of the church welcomed Nkeleja with open arms, providing him with a community of faith and fellowship. Among them were some of his old schoolmates, which amazed him. It was a beautiful picture of how the church embraces and uplifts its new members, providing a family and a sense of belonging.
We are now preparing Nkeleja for baptism, scheduled for December 23rd. This journey from a casual bystander at a small crusade to a devoted member of our church family is nothing short of miraculous. It is a vivid reminder of the power of faith, community, and the unexpected ways God works in our lives.
As we continue to support Nkeleja in his newfound faith, we are reminded of the endless possibilities when a heart is open to change. His story is a beacon of hope and an inspiration to us all. Let us keep him in our prayers as he embarks on this beautiful journey of faith and transformation.
