"Hope Begins" in Gisuru, Burundi
A new chapter of care, compassion, and commitment through Amigos' Missionpoint and Doctors on Mission International

Bring Hope and Healing to Burundi
In the heart of East Africa, Burundi remains one of the poorest and most underserved countries in the world—a nation where extreme poverty, limited healthcare infrastructure, and the legacy of past conflict leave families struggling without access to the care they desperately need. In many rural Burundi villages, children grow up without ever seeing a doctor. Mothers face impossible choices between buying food or medicine. Preventable illnesses like malaria, infections, and maternal complications too often become life-threatening simply because healthcare in Burundi is out of reach.
This is where we step in—together.
The numbers tell a devastating story:
- 81% of Burundians live in extreme poverty — one of the highest
rates in the world.
- 55% of children under five are stunted due to malnutrition —
the highest rate in East Africa.
- A single basic medical consultation costs the equivalent of
12 days of wages for a rural family.
- 90% of the rural population has no reliable access to healthcare.
These are not statistics. These are the families we are going to serve.
Through MissionPoint Burundi, Amigos Internacionales is launching free rural medical camps in Burundi, delivering life-saving healthcare to vulnerable communities with primary medical care, dental and vision clinics, and maternal-child health support. Each clinic is not only an answer to urgent physical needs but also a testimony of God’s love in action, bringing hope and healing where hospitals, doctors, and even basic medicine are scarce.
With your partnership, we can expand healthcare access in Burundi, equipping communities with free
medical services, trained volunteers, and sustainable support that transforms lives today and builds a healthier future for tomorrow.
Why Gisuru?
No Doctors. No Medicine. No Options.
Gisuru, in rural eastern Burundi on the Tanzanian border, is one of the most underserved communities in the country.
With limited access to healthcare services, no regular medical care, and families struggling to meet basic needs, countless children and mothers face life-threatening conditions that would be easily treatable elsewhere. Diseases like malaria, respiratory infections, and maternal-child complications remain rampant due to a lack of healthcare infrastructure and medical personnel.
Children Walking Miles for Water That Makes Them Sick
Children walk miles—often barefoot—for clean water, while families must choose between buying food or medicine. Local clinics are overwhelmed, under-resourced, and rarely staffed. Even basic medications such as aspirin are in short supply in these remote villages in Burundi.
This Is Why We Go to Gisuru
This critical need is why Amigos Internacionales, through the MissionPoint Burundi free medical camps and mobile healthcare outreach, focuses on delivering free primary healthcare clinics in rural Burundi, vision and dental care outreach, and medical training programs for local healthcare volunteers.
Together, we can close the gap in healthcare access for the most vulnerable—families living in rural Burundi, women facing maternal health risks, and children who have never seen a doctor or dentist.
